Just Like Heaven
(Smythe-Smith Quartet #1)
by Julia Quinn
Historical Romance
May 31st 2011
Honoria Smythe-Smith, the youngest daughter of the eldest son of the Earl of Winstead, plays the violin in the annual musicale performed by the Smythe-Smith quartet. She’s well aware that they are dreadful but she’s the sort who figures that nothing good will come of being mortified, so she puts on a good show and laughs about it.
Marcus Holroyd is the best friend of Honoria’s brother Daniel, who lives in exile. Marcus has promised to watch out for Honoria, but he faces a challenge when she sets off for Cambridge determined to marry by the end of the season. She’s got her eye on the only unmarried Bridgerton, who’s a bit wet behind the ears. When her advances are spurned, can Marcus swoop in and steal her heart in time for the musicale?
Sexual Content 3/5

→ Opinion | A Quinn Delight!
I always find myself laughing when I read a Julia Quinn novel, and I can’t seem to control it! Although the author could’ve done a better job, I had a great time reading Just Like Heaven!
We are delighted to meet again some of our favorite characters from the Bridgerton series. I won’t spoil it for you, but Lady Danbury is always such a joy to see! She has one of her best scenes ever in this book, quite hilarious!
The main couple was excellent together, I loved how relaxed they felt around each other and they had several natural and flowing dialogues. And of course I was enchanted by our not so typical hero, a shy and loyal aristocrat Marcus was ill for the most part of the book, it could’ve been shorter – I felt like there wasn’t much more the author could’ve explored from that scene.
What I really missed was more romance scenes, when comparing it to the “previous” Bridgerton books. In my opinion, the novel lacked more romance and sexual tension between Honoria and Marcus. Maybe that’s why I thought their sex scene odd, a forced scene had to be there, didn’t feel very natural to the story.
Despite it’s rushed ending and some lacking points here and there, I was charmed -again- by the humorous and light romance Julia Quinn has presented. A fast paced page turner you’ll fell in love with. I won’t miss A Night Like This for anything in the world!
