In the end, I couldn’t resist to read A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean, which I got yesterday and it’s perfect for the International Womens’ Month topic (read a book that has a single female figure on the cover). I’ll post my review asap :)

  19. Gina ~ Hott Books

I’m entering with Thoughtless which has a single female on the cover. It’s a YA romance.

  20. Stella (Ex Libris)

Most of the books I read and reviewed fit the “single woman on the cover” theme, but there is one with a Highlander hero ;-)

  21. Trix

Theme 1: read a book involving Scotland/a highlander

    LABYRINTH by Tarah Scott
    self-published e-book, January 2012

Blurb: “Yes, magic exists. Not the backwater voodoo witches practice where Mississippi Deputy Sheriff Margot Saulnier grew up. But the age-old black magic a woman weaves around a man that draws him under her spell. The kind Margot’s best friend used to kill her husband…and get away with it.

Margot chases her friend to Scotland, determined to prove her guilty of murder. No one will stop Margot. Not the SAS agent sent to watch her…and not the Scottish lord legend says murders his lovers when they cannot free him from the spell that has imprisoned him in Castle Morrison for three hundred years.

    He’s just a legend.

    And magick doesn’t exist.”

Review: As someone who doesn’t usually enjoy traditional m/f romances (m/m seems so much less cliched to me), I was surprised to be drawn in to this story. Margot is an easy heroine to like, and I enjoyed her repartee with the very appealing McNeil. Scott brings out fascinating similarities between the Southern noir of the Mississippi scenes and the intrigue of the Scottish castle’s mystery. The sex scenes and the mystery are each ramped up slowly, cleverly blending fantasy and increasingly perplexing details. My one major complaint is that things start to get very confusing near the end with the introduction of Logan, and the rushed final showdown doesn’t help. I can’t tell if it’s an editing mistake on the author’s part, or denseness on mine! It does invite repeated readings, just to find out what the hell’s going on…
