The Reading Romances Challenge is not about the amount of books you read, but the variety of titles you’ll have read when the challenge is over! Our goal is to read a bit of everything in the romance bookish world and open our minds to new books we wouldn’t usually read.

The Reading Romances Challenge 2013 will focus on Classic Romance plot lines  settings and themes this year!

If you are an author and want to contribute with prizes, please email me.

You can commit to read a number of books for this challenge during the year:

  • Level 3:  7-9 books
  • Level 4 : 10-12 books
  • Level 5: 13-15 books
  • Level 6: 16+ books

Or you might rather commit to read per month:

  • Romance Reader – 1 book per month
  • Romance Lover- 2 or 3 books per month
  • Romance Addicted – 4 or 5 books per month

NOV:     Romeo and Juliet – a class difference sets a couple apart.

DEC:     Cinderella  –  rags to riches or riches to rags.

Challenge Guidelines:

  1. The 2013 Reading Romances Challenge will run from Jan 1, 2013 – Dec 31, 2013.
  2. Anyone can join, you don’t need to have a blog. Feel free to sign-up in the comments – you can post reviews to any book site (i.e. Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Smashwords, Goodreads, Librarything, Shelfari etc). If you don’t have a blog you are still welcome to sign up. You can create a shelf for the challenge at Goodreads or LibraryThing or a similar site, please include your name and a link to your shelf.
  3. The topics for each month are posted above so you can schedule ahead!
  4. You can list your books before reading them (by leaving a comment on the post with the topics for that month) or just put them in a wrap-up post and link each month. If you list them, don’t feel obligated to read them, changes are welcomed! Please identify the books you’ve reviewed in your wrap up post each month so that I may easily add up your entries for the prize drawing! Track all of your challenge accomplishments, the good and bad.
  5. Sign up in the linky bellow and add the direct link to your post about joining the Reading Romances Challenge. If you don’t have a blog, please link it to the page where you post your reviews (Goodreads, Shelfari, Amazon etc).
  6. You don’t have to participate every month, but please try to!
  7. Sign-ups will be open until Dec 15, 2012, so feel free to join at any time throughout the year.
  • You can read the same author more than once and the books can be old or new, but they must be read during the course of the challenge.
  • Books used in this challenge may be used in other challenges.
  • Books can be in any format – paper, audio, ebook.
  • Post the button to post on your sidebar, this way others can find their way back to this post and join in the fun!

At the beginning of each month there will be a roundup post for you to add your reviews for that month. If you forget, feel free to add your reviews in the following month. It can be something simple and short, please don’t worry about it! For each review you link up, you will get one entry in the monthly giveaways and in the challenge giveaways! Winners will be posted on the next month’s challenge post.

There will be monthly giveaways during the year for everyone who is actively participating on the challenge. There might be special giveaway by the end of the year, so don’t give up!

Sign-up:

Write a starting post joining the challenge and outlining your challenges. Post your name and the direct link to your challenge post (or shelf link, amazon page)  in the Linky bellow:

  1. What a great challenge! I’m so excited!
The themes for each month are a bit tricky but I think I managed to find books to fit them :)

I would love to take this challenge. I don’t have a blog so I will figure out how to show them on goodreads. This will be my first reading challenge so I am very new and will take a bit for me to catch on writing reviews and posting where I am supposed to post. But I am excited!!!!

  3. What a fabulous challenge. I’d love to donate some prizes. Wish I could join in but loads of writing needed to be done this year and it might distract me.

    I have a several Q:
    -are re-reads acceptable?
-will you guys post suggestions to the theme of the month?

    Thank you :)

Hi Aly! Re-reads aren’t accepted, since the idea is to find new books and read new ones outside your usual choices! I could post suggestions and ask readers to do the same in order to make it easier =)

How about novellas? Or erotica? Do any of those count?

The length is up to you, short stories, novellas or novels. Erotic ROMANCE is okay, but erotica is outside the genre! =/

One last Q :D what genres do enter the challenge? Historical, contemporary, paranormal?

          • by Nat

ALL of them, as song as it’s a romance. It also doesn’t have to be in english =)

I will be more than happy to join. I will be doing my reviews on goodreads. This is a link to the shelf I created: http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/9046645-melissa?format=html&shelf=2013-reading-challenge

I apologize for not knowing how to make the link any shorter.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to join even though I don’t have a blog.

I want to be in! I just found this in my notifications! Sounds great…although I am peeved erotica is not counted!! There are many books in that genre with plenty of romance in them.

But I will be good and follow the guidlines. Here is a link to my Goodreads shelf for the challenge. http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/2016803?shelf=the-reading-romances-challenge-2013

I could not find a sign up form so I hope this counts.

I am aiming to read the entry level 5: 13 to 15 books. I know that I will get at least one book read a month and sometimes 2 read during the month just depends on my work schedule.

  13. I’ll do it! I love a good challenge. I just started my blog so I’m happy to add this to it. I can easily do level 6, and I’ll be going between being a book lover and a book addict.

I’m already in an A-Z reading challenge with a street team I’m involved in and it’s on Goodreads so I don’t think I can do both. I’d live to thought I’m very excited about the challenge.

I’ve never counted how many books I read, so I set my goal to 150 for 2013. However I’m not sure they would all fall into one of these categories or in the correct month. So I will commit as a Romance Reader – 1 book per month. I looked in my kindle library for unread Marriage books and I found Waking up Married: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009YP9L7U/. Not sure if this is a marriage of convenience or forced reading the description, since it is a romance book I assume it will lead to love, but again – haven’t read it yet ;) . Will you be posting suggested books in each category for those signed up?

I do not blog, so I’ve created a goodreads shelf: http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/12027789?shelf=reading-romance-2013-challenge

My comment for Jan 5 still shows awaiting moderation — did it get lost? I was going to see how many books I said I would read for the challenge to list it in the new goodreads group. I don’t remember and didn’t want them to conflict….I don’t have a blog so I was signing up with goodreads shelf. I believe I asked for some suggestions for books as well…

  19. Hello!! What is your email address? I would be more than happy to donate ebooks. I have three romance stories available and could donate 2 ebooks each.

  20. Hi Nat! I just signed up. This’ll make me actually review at least one book a month. :) I’m happy to donate stuff for giveaways. Please email me with your needs.

    Hi Nat,

I promised you I would come over and sign up for the reading challenge. I’m here! Yeah me!

I want to sign up for the Level 6 16+ books for the year, starting today. I started a book by Diana Palmer called Wyoming Fierce. Can’t wait to tell everyone about this book.

My reading genre varies. I love reading most anything in anytype of genre that has to do with romance. I wish everyone the best in meeting your goals.

Sounds like fun. I have added the challenge on goodreads and will try to at least read 1 book in each category. Not sure if I can get them done in the month posted (especially since it’s the last day of January ;) ) but I’m going to try.

I typically read closer to 1 or 2 books a week, but I’m in the middle of some life changes, so that has been drastically reduced. I am an advid reader and open to any genre, as long as it has a good story. I’m willing to give anything a shot.

    Thanks for putting this together.
