Guest Post/Giveaway with Lori Toland

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Hi Nat! Thanks for having me stop by to talk about romance.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usThe fact is writing romance is really hard. The realities of romance in everyday life are just not the same as what’s in the romance novel. In my novels I try to focus on what the characters are feeling,

on the actions of the characters to show how they feel.

Luke is completely focused on Ashlee’s seduction. From the first moment they meet, he can’t get her out of his mind. The feelings of a budding romance are new to Ashlee, but protecting her virginity is vital to her survival.

Soul Seduction is full of action, from the fight scenes to the erotic love scenes. Luke actively pursues Ashlee throughout the whole book, even though she resists the need deep within her. Her life depends on not falling to Luke’s tempting charm and Luke is determined to have her, at any cost.

If Ashlee was human, she would have given in a long time ago to Luke’s seduction, especially when she dreams about him every night. But when her dreams turn dark, Luke may be the only person who can save her from the terrifying dreams, and herself.

Thanks Nat! Take care and I hope you all enjoy Soul Seduction.

Soul Seduction
by Lori Toland

November 29th 2011 by Loose Id

Ashlee Bennett has her priorities straight. Fighting demons is at the top of the list until she meets her sexy neighbor, Luke Byrne. Even though he is human, she can’t stop dreaming about his buff body and sexy grin…until her dreams turn to nightmares.

Her world is turned upside down when Luke follows her one night, but instead of being afraid, he is only more determined to stand beside her and fight. Ashlee knows she needs to keep her distance from Luke, not just to protect her virginity but her heart as well. But Luke may be the only one who can save her from the night, and her dreams.

Publisher’s Note: This book contains explicit sexual situations, graphic language, and material that some readers may find objectionable: violence.

Two of my favorite story themes are enemies to lovers and friends to lovers. Have you written books using these tropes? If so, which do you think is the hardest to write? If not, do you plan to?

    1. Lori

Hi Karen! :) you always ask great questions.

I have written Friends to Lovers, in Trust In Me, a m/m contemporary. There are some sexy scenes in there! I found this easy to write because their chemistry flowed so well.

Enemies to lovers, not yet but I do want to. Tension would off the charts in that book! :)

      1. admin

Friends to lovers is one of my favorite plots! They’re usually sweet and full of understanding – so romantic <3

  2. Sandy Wolters

Soul Seduction sounds like a great read! Thanks for introducing this author to me.

    1. Lori

      Thanks! :)

  3. Gena Robertson

Wow, this book sounds fabulous! I can’t even imagine the amount of sexual tension that must be endured throughout their adventures! Squee!! What anticipation – yumminess :D

    1. Lori

I love the rags to riches stories and also friends to lovers, my favorite themes. Your book sound fabulous and I would love to read it.

    1. Lori

Thank you! :) I love the rags to riches trope too. Aggghhhh! No more plot bunnies! :)

  8. Ava VonGiebel

I think about how authors do what they do all of the time I read a book! I’ve tried myself to write and it just has not come together in a realistic way *sigh

I give A LOT of credit to authors out there. It’s a great accomplishment to have a complete work out they for readers to enjoy.

    Your works sound great!

    1. Lori

You know the old adage is true: don’t try this at home! LOL. At first it seemed like nothing gelled. I started writing in 1997 and had an agent in 2000. I kept writing and in 2009 my first book was published. Just keep writing. Don’t stop! Enjoy the story.

  9. Lilian Cheng

I am very pleased with what I read in the synopsis, sounds like a delicious paranormal romance to me! Definitely looking forward to reading this in the near future!

Thank you for the introduction, Lori <3

    1. Lori

      Thank you :)

  10. MaDonna Lemmen

This book sounds awesome! I would like to have a chance to read it :)
I often think about writing my own book but keep putting it off. I have the basics of the book in my head, now to just put it to paper lol.
    Thanks for doing this, MaDonna

    1. Lori

Well get to writing! These books don’t just write themselves ;)

  11. erinf1

This books sounds awesome! Thanks for the interview!

    1. Lori

      Thanks!

  12. Angie Adair

Whew. This sounds like an awesome book!

    1. Lori

Thanks! :) i hope you enjoy it.

  13. Melissa T

    Lori,

You mention that this book is full of fight scenes and erotic love scenes. Which do you enjoy writing more, the fight scenes, or the love scenes?

    1. Lori

      That’s hard to decide!

I really love writing the erotic love scenes. The harder the better ;) The hardest part of this book was keeping Ashlee a virgin. She wanted Luke right away.

But the fight scenes are fun. Overwriting the scenes can happen so I tend to read and re-read my fight scenes to make sure I don’t overdo it.

      :)

  14. Shane R.

I love books with sexual tention. Thanks for sharing this book with us! And thanks for the giveaway!

    1. Lori

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoy :)

  15. Maritza Robinson

Ooo sounds like my kind of book. Can’t wait to read. Is this your first paranomal book? If so is it harder to write paranormal books? Thanks for giveaway!

    1. Lori

      Hi Maritza! :)

This is my first published paranormal. The hardest part of writing Paranormal is the world building. There are so many different avenues I had to look down and make sure little hints were left in the book as to who Luke really is.

  16. Tina Rucci

This sounds like a great read, I will be adding it to my TBR pile.

    1. Lori

Thanks Tina! :) I hope you enjoy it!

  17. Sara Kovach

Wow! Trying to stay away from only one that can save you. Heck – I think I would have to give in!!!!

    1. Lori

      Hi Sara :)

OMG, me too. Especially with a body like Luke’s? Guh. He’s lickable. They drove me nuts! Their chemistry was so hot and I wanted them to get naughty.

I often tore my hair out while writing this book because they wouldn’t stop wanting to jump each other’s bones. I don’t know who was more frustrated, them or me! :)

      Lori

  18. Andrea I

I keep finding interesting books to add to my TBR list. I do envy you for living in Florida even though I’m only as far north as Atlanta.

    1. Lori

      Hi Andrea. :)

Florida is very nice, but the traffic is awful where I live, which is near Disney.

  19. Evan Blanc

What is your favorite type of book to read?? What pulls you into a Hero??
    Love your work!!!

    1. Lori

      Hi Evan! :)

Thank you so much for the compliment :) I’m glowing now.

Honestly what gets me into a hero is his sex appeal. I’m not talking abs or a nice gorgeous ass (but those help! :D ) Sex appeal to the heroine (or hero, because I also write gay romance) is what’s important. :)

And as far as my favorite reading, anything that doesn’t have zombies :D *shudder* I hate zombies. I literally read it all. :)

  20. Catherine Lee

CEO by day and erotic romance writer by night…Do your colleagues know about your evening hobby? What are their thoughts about it?

    1. Lori

      Hi Catherine! :)

Some do. In fact, one of directors is none other than the awesome Kele Moon and you can find her works at KeleMoon.com :)

      1. Lori

Sorry, one of the company directors.

  21. bn100

The book sounds very good. What was your inspiration for the book?

    1. Lori

      Hi BN! :)

Inspiration? Besides Luke? *drool* Uhm, I’ve always wanted to write a sword bearing demon hunter. :D I like the rah rah sis boom bah, I’m gonna kick your ass strong heroines but even better, I love the men who dare to fall in love with them and Luke dared to fall in love with Ashlee.

  22. Trudy

This sounds fascinating. I love to hear and read from different authors. Thank you.

    1. Lori

Thanks Trudy :) I hope you enjoy :D

  23. Monica

Hi Monica! I hope you enjoy it :)

  24. gamistress66

not familiar with Lori’s work so thanks for introducing me to a new author :) is this book part of a series? have to say the ” if Ashley was human” certainly raised my curosity.

  25. Lori

    Hi GaMistress! :)

I’m always excited to see new readers :)

Ashlee is a demon slayer, born and trained to fight demons. And yes, this book is part of series that follows Ashlee after she moves to England.

Luke is human, but he’s not all that he seems. :)

  26. Melissa C

The cover is amazing- beautiful, yet pulls you in with what is going to happen to her!!!

    1. Lori

Oh thank you! :) I love the cover too! :)

  27. cky15

cky15: I have never read any of your books but I am always looking for some new authors. I read just a little and want to read this book.

    1. Lori

      Terrific! :)

  28. Tina B

I enjoyed the post. This book sounds SOOO good. I read the excerpt on your website and OMG is it HOT!!! I HAVE to read it now! I am glad to hear that it is part of a series. I enjoy all stories, but I feel that series seems to give authors more room for character and world development/growth, especially in paranormals. Thank you for the opportunity!

    1. Lori

Oh yay! I hope you enjoy the book! :)

  29. Lisa Walker

I love the cover! The story sounds really interesting and I can’t wait to read the book!

    1. Lori

      Hi Lisa!

I love the cover too. Luke’s just how I imagined him ;)

  30. Tamsyn

    1. Lori

      Hi Tamsyn :)

Thanks for stopping by and for the lovely comments! I appreciate it :)

  31. Melissa C

I just stumbled on the world of book blogs and I have fallen in love again with the world of reading. I haven’t really branched out from my old faithful “danielle steels” for quite some time, and oh my goodness there is a whole world out there for me to discover! THANK YOU for your imagination, dedictation and talents!

    1. Lori

Thank you, Melissa C! :) I’m glad to see you’ve gotten back into reading. Blogging is so awesome because it really allows us authors to reach fans on a one-on-one basis we couldn’t before :)

I hope you enjoy and thanks for the lovely comments!

  32. Mary Preston

I think I would put fighting demons to one side if I met a sexy neighbor . SOUL SEDUCTION is definitely for me.

    1. Lori

Me too, Mary! I would be all over him! :)

  33. Evan Blanc

Lori’s books sounds amazing!! I can’t wait to start them!!

Sounds like a great book, looking forward to reading it

  35. Christine A.

Congrats on the release Lori! This book sounds great and I look forward to reading it. I feel your pain with Orlando, I am in the Springhill/Brooksville area where it is not so bad but I used to live in Tampa. When you are not writing, who do you enjoy reading? I love the cover. Did you have any say or input with it? Thanks!

    1. Lori

      hi Christine! :)

I didn’t have a lot of say other than “show me some naked men” hence the hotness of Luke on the cover :)

  36. Criss

I love how interesting Soul Seduction is, great fight and sexual scenes are very much welcome. I would very much love to read this book. Do you ever have writers block? If yes how do you get over it?

    1. Lori

      Hi Criss :)

I don’t get writer’s block. However, I do sometimes find it hard to write for two reasons. One, I’m exhausted and I need to go to bed. Two, my plot jumped the tracks somewhere back on the plot and I just need to get it back on track.

  37. kah_cherub

A demon slayer with a sexy neighbor? Sounds like my kind of book! ;)

My Grandmother always has a stack of lurid books…as my mother would say…on her agenda…she’s in her 80′s and usually reads a book every two days…. I think she missed her calling…..she should have been a writer….and i know this would be her genre.

  41. Krista

    Luke sounds yummy!

  42. May

Sounds like an exciting and romantic book! Will add it to my TBR pile…. :)

  43. Sherry S.

This sounds like a great book. I look forward to reading it.

  44. Elizabeth

What inspired you to try the paranormal genre?

    1. Lori

Hi Elizabeth, I’ve been a huge fan of the PNR genre since I read The Vampire Diaries when it first came out. I was thirteen and boy, that just hit me straight in the heart, so much that when I met my husband, I said, “Oh boy, I love your name. It’s a derivative of my favorite book character.” He knew I was a bookworm like him from that moment and we’ve been inseparable since! :)

  45. Shannon

Agreed, writing romance is hard, but where do you get your inspiration? Is it movies, other books, exaggeration of real life events, or music?

    1. Lori

Inspiration comes in so many different forms. Often times there’s something that happens that triggers a story, Like in my next short story due out from Dreamspinner Press, I had just received an e-mail from one minute in the future. Well, DSP was looking for time travel stories and I wrote one. It’s coming out this June.

      So inspiration is everywhere! :)

  46. deb p

This sounds like a fun and sexy read.

  47. Rose P.

    good luck everyone!! :)
