Exclusive Interview With Lori Toland + Giveaway

December 5, 2012 - 19 Comments
When did you first start reading romance?
I started reading romance when I was 12, Harlequin Blaze, when they were still pretty new. I ate them up. I would spend hours in a bookstore or at the library reading the novels. Then I got into Historicals and I love Johanna Lindsey, especially Man Of My Dreams. Still my all time favorite
Who is your latest author crush, romance or non-romance, and what about this person’s writing makes you swoon?
Probably Rick Riordan. He writes Greek Mythology correctly and that makes me geek out so badly. I grew up reading and studying Greek Mythology (let’s face it, that’s when I made the transition from Romance into Erotica) so I’m very particular about incorporating it into modern day fiction.
What’s your “aha” moment when writing a sex scene in a book – the point at which you realize you’ve captured the essence of a naughty scene?
I have two things that happen: First, I say to myself “OMG, this is REALLY naughty.” and then I think “Is Kele (my Crit Partner) going to blush over this?” and then if those two things happen, I know I’ve caught the essence of a naughty scene.

How to you like your heroes and heroines to be?

I like my heroes to be very sexy and hopelessly attracted to their heroine and I love heroines to have strength, intelligence but innocence too.
What’s your favorite scene or moment from PAYBACK and why? Can you describe it (or provide a short excerpt) for us without giving too much away?
I love the champagne scene. :) That was very much fun to write and it really surprised me too. Andre was just like “Oh, I know how to turn this girl on her head.” and I just let it flow!
What’s unique about the romance in PAYBACK?
The gullibility of Melanie. She’s a loveable girl. She’s a very smart girl but she trusts very easily and she’s very adorable.
What are you currently working on?
Seducing Dylan which is the sequel to Payback. You meet Dylan in Payback, and he’s one of Andre’s teammates. It’s pretty hot so far! :)

If you could ask readers a question what would it be?
What is it about firemen that makes them so sexy? I had this question posed to me and of course I bumbled out a stupid answer, because I was faced with a gorgeous firefighter. :) but I’d love to hear this!

Thanks Nat for having me by! I hope you all enjoy Payback! :)

Melanie is having a bad day. She nearly set her kitchen on fire and who comes running to her rescue? Firefighter Andre Wellings, her brother’s best friend and her long time crush. Now she has to take a fire safety course with him but something’s up and she plans to get to the bottom of this.

When Andre gets the call Mel is danger, he’s scared to death of losing the woman he’s always admired in secret. Now that she’s safe, he breathes a sigh of relief until his teammates begin to tease her. Playing pranks on her when they were kids used to be fun but hurting her now isn’t an option.

Caught in a web of lies, Andre shows up to her house with plans to set her straight but Melanie has a different idea. Too many years of having her pigtails pulled by Andre has made her hungry for revenge and now it’s time for payback.

Warning: This book contains M/F sexual practices hot enough to make a fireman sweat (or blush) and possibly inappropriate use of champagne. Read at your own risk.

Fun interview! What makes firemen hot to me is that for the most part they are in great physical shape, they are willing to put their lives on the line for complete strangers and most of them are Alpha type men who know what they want and want to take care of their woman. At least that’s how I picture them:)

    Thanks for the giveaway!

I think it’s a combination of Confidence, knowing they can save you in a crisis and how sexy they look in their uniform, they seem to always have a gorgeous smile.

I think the fact that they risk their lives to go against the instinct to avoid fire and harm makes them selfless on top of risk-seekers or adrenaline-junkies. They have to be quick thinkers and analytical at the same time.

Firemen are heroes – for real. They step into danger to save others.

  13. For me, it’s the whole idea that they literally risk their lives to save others. They are modern day warriors but instead of fighting people, they’re fighting fire. Totally awesome and very sexy!

Thanks for the awesome giveaway! The book sounds amazing!

I think firemen are sexy because they are physically strong. Their job is to help those who are in trouble so they are heroes too.

I would love to read the book!

I’ve just loved ‘em my whole life, starting with a very embarrassing house call they had to make when I was little. I got my head stuck in a swivel chair, and the first thing I saw when they got me out was the fireman’s darling, smiling face…sigh! As I got older, well…who can resist the bravery, the fitness, the uniforms, the whole bit?

It’s got to be the selflessness with which they do their jobs. That and the sexy hot bods definetly help :-)
