Review: The Devil You Know by Victoria Vane

July 30, 2012

by Victoria Vane

(The Devil DeVere #3)

July 27th 2012 by BREATHLESS PRESS

When dealing with the devil it’s easy to be burned… especially when passion ignites the flames.
Who can find a virtuous woman… Beautiful, respectable, and dutiful, Lady Diana Palmerston-Wriothesley has long resigned herself to her decade-long loveless and childless marriage to a feckless husband…until his gambling pushes them to the brink of financial ruin.
Sometimes the devil is in disguise…as a gentleman… Viscount Ludovic, “The Devil DeVere”, is a man accustomed to taking what he wants according to his whim and heedless of the cost…until he encounters a woman who won’t be had at any price.
When dealing with the devil, it’s easy to be burned… When Diana discovers a secret that shatters the carefully built façade concealing her private pain, she seeks aid and comfort from the most unlikely place…the devil’s arms. But will a single night of heavenly passion damn them both forever?

If you still hadn’t fell in love with DeVere, now you’ll surrender to him.

I’m loving to have the chance to follow this series while it’s still being written. I just heard that Victoria Vane (AKA Emery Lee) might be adding 2 more novellas and a spin off! It’s so exciting to see it grow book by book. I’m getting addicted to Victoria’s writing, it’s like a drug.

This third chapter of The Devil DeVere series is a prequel that begs to be told and is imperative to understand the next title. But if it’s a prequel, why put it in the middle of the series?

The author made it so this part would be out of context if it would be placed as the first book, so we shouldn’t call it a prequel.

The Devil You Know is better described as an episode that will fill us in a story that the  main characters wouldn’t be able to fully explain or revisit during The Devil’s Match. It would be long, might affect the pacing drastically plus we wouldn’t have the chance to meet (and relate to) most of the characters that were involved (and fundamental), unless both titles could be told as a full length novel.

It leaves us anticipating the conclusion, but I’m restricted to what I can reveal without spoiling the book for you. I expect a supreme ending for this arc. Her twists are unpredictable and now we got the chance to really comprehend the second part that will follow next. A real treat for DeVere’s fans!

Now if you’ll excuse me, after discovering some of their secrets, I must go read again the previous two books – and you should too!

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Angels: The Better Choice? by Carrie Ann Ryan + Giveaway

July 26, 2012

Angels: The Better Choice?

As most of you know, I’m a werewolf girl. You’ve read my Redwood Pack (cough) and know my love and

Author Carrie Ann Ryan

fixation with them. I’m okay with that. I love the earthy-feel of them. The animalistic tendencies.

But now…I’m looking at something new. Something exciting. Something…angelic.

In Dust of My Wings I’m venturing out and starting a new seven book series called Dante’s Circle. Scary, right? Each book will be slight different in that I’m not just talking about one paranormal species.

Nope, I have like 20 species alone. *gasp*

But in Dust of My Wings we meet Shade, my first angel. And oh my is he swoon worthy. Well, at least to me. You’ll have to be the judge.

Why am I writing about angels? Well, it’s simple. I’ve always be been fascinated by them. Beyond the religious aspects—which in itself is immense and daunting—I’m looking at the idea that not everyone is inherently good or evil.

Sometimes we’re a mixture.

What if angels were just another race of beings with their own versions of right and wrong. They have their own culture,  leadership, and sense of justice.

And what if not all of them were good?

What if there was a faction that was trying to take over?

Shade is a warrior angel. His job is to deal out justice and take care of his people for the council of elders. The supernaturals are secret to humans. But humans aren’t quite human….

Humans aren’t as alone as they choose to believe. Every human possesses a trait of supernatural that lays dormant within their genetic make-up. Centuries of diluting and breeding have allowed humans to think they are alone and untouched by magic. But what happens when something changes?

Now, why do I love angels? Because they’re strong, and a symbol of good and peace. But is that really true? I mean the most famous angel of all was one who fell from grace after all. I think what we love about angels is the dichotomy they process. Are the good? Evil? A symbol of who we want to be?

Or are they just a species trying to get along in the world and be themselves.

It’s really up to you on how you see this. But I hope you get to see my world of angels and how they work.

Tell me, what is your favorite thing about angels? Is it their wings? Their ability to fly? Tell me.

Humans aren’t as alone as they choose to believe. Every human possesses a trait of supernatural that lays dormant within their genetic make-up. Centuries of diluting and breeding have allowed humans to think they are alone and untouched by magic. But what happens when something changes?

Neat freak lab tech, Lily Banner lives her life as any ordinary human. She’s dedicated to her work and loves to hang out with her friends at Dante’s Circle, their local bar. When she discovers a strange blue dust at work she meets a handsome stranger holding secrets – and maybe her heart. But after a close call with a thunderstorm, she may not be as ordinary as she thinks.

Shade Griffin is a warrior angel sent to Earth to protect the supernaturals’ secrets. One problem, he can’t stop leaving dust in odd places around town. Now he has to find every ounce of his dust and keep the presence of the supernatural a secret. But after a close encounter with a sexy lab tech and a lightning quick connection, his millennia old loyalties may shift and he could lose more than just his wings in the chaos.

The motorcycle vibrated beneath Shade as he pulled off the side of the road and parked. The rain pelted him, the cold seeping into his bones, but he shrugged it off. He was in northern Washington and this seemed to be the norm in terms of weather.

He lifted his leg and got off the bike, ignoring the stares of the women around him. They watched him stroll, his powerful legs leading to long strides. He’d tucked his wings into the slits into his back to hide the fact he was an angel, but he couldn’t hide his face or the fact that women seemed to fawn over it.

It had been a long time since he had a woman. Not since that were jaguar a century or two ago in a night of deep depression and loneliness for him. But the heat, claws and desperation and only served to fill a physical need that left him even lonelier than before. From then on he left his carnal needs up to his hand. Before the jaguar it had been even longer, but he didn’t want to think about her. The one he’d lost. She was long since gone.
